Dance/NOW: ECU Dance Blog #4

A word from the DAC...

I am SO proud of everyone involved in the show this weekend.  What an incredible show, great choreography, top notch production staff and absolutely GORGEOUS dancing through every minute of it.  Thank you ALL for your hard work and dedication to bringing the best of our art form to the stage!  And, even though the massive victory by the football team was a big event, we all know that the dance show was where the real action was this weekend.  In fact...

“If dancing were any easier it would be called football.” (Anonymous)

Actually, the dancing was so good that it deserves two quotes this week. This one is from Austrian writer, Vicki Baum:

“There are shortcuts to happiness, and dancing is one of them.”

Ain't dat da TRUTH! And now, on with the blog!

ANNOUNCEMENTS

The prestigious opportunity to graduate with Honors from College should not be taken lightly. That even stands true for Dance majors!  The National Honors Society for Dance Arts, officially established in 1998, was founded within the East Carolina Dance Program last year. This organization, designed for the advancement of the education of Dance, is involved with 150 state and federal organizations within the field of dance and art education. What an absolutely wonderful community to become a part of and create connections within! This opportunity within the East Carolina SOTD will allow you to enhance your dance education, graduate with honors (fancy chords at graduation and all!), potentially go to CHICAGO with ECU this year, give you credentials to become a wonderful dancer or dance educator, and put something on your resume that is known throughout the nation.

For more information, please come to the interest meeting on Tuesday- September 23! This will be held in Messick, room 215, any dancer of any class is welcome.

REMINDER that clothing money and forms for ECDA are due this Tuesday, the 23rd! Bring to an ECDA officer!

 UPCOMING EVENTS

SENIOR CHOREOGRAPHY AUDITIONS!

Just a reminder that this fall's Senior Choreography auditions are this coming Saturday, September 27.  Sign-in begins at 10am and the audition will begin promptly at 10:30am.  The choreographers will be teaching short combinations and there will be a few sections that include improvisation, so make sure you include some improvisational movement in your warm up.

Please print the audition conflict form (sent via callboard) and bring it to the audition complete with your UPDATED conflicts.  For those cast in Dance 2015 or Goldsboro, please write (in the comments section or on the back) the names of the choreographers you are working with and the general rehearsal times you were given in the master schedule sent recently.  Otherwise, please follow the directions included on the form.  In particular, make sure you fill all boxes with either FREE or your unavailability, including any crew hours, as this will cut down wasted time at sign-in.

As a reminder, all Dance Performance majors are required to audition for Senior Choreography and Dance Education majors are strongly encouraged to attend.

See you bright and early Saturday morning!
